Guwahati colleges celebrate Women's Day with empowerment and rights in focus

Educational institutions across Guwahati marked International Women's Day with events centred on women's rights, health, and empowerment. Two colleges hosted special programmes, each featuring discussions, exhibitions, and tributes to influential figures in the community.

At Beltola College, the day was observed under the theme 'Rights, Justice, Work – For All Women and Girls'. The event honoured women teachers and staff while paying tribute to renowned Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. Dr Archana Das, an Associate Professor, addressed the gathering on critical issues such as child marriage, dowry, and sexual violence. She also spoke about the importance of women's rights in education and social equality.

Dispur College hosted its celebration at the PBP Auditorium, attended by faculty and students. Dr Aruna Devi delivered a talk on women's health and self-confidence. The event also included a stall exhibition with nearly 30 stalls, showcasing creative and entrepreneurial products. Over 100 participants attended the exhibition.

The events at both colleges highlighted ongoing efforts to promote gender equality and empowerment. Speakers and exhibitions focused on practical issues, from health awareness to legal rights, reinforcing the day's global themes at a local level.
