Omsk Oblast's Hepatitis Crisis Worsens as Cases Skyrocket in 2025

Omsk Oblast now has the highest rate of viral hepatitis in Russia. The region recorded 2,143 chronic cases in 2025, far above the national average. Its infection levels are more than twice those seen elsewhere in the country. In 2025, Omsk Oblast reported 2,143 chronic viral hepatitis cases. This equals 118.27 cases per 100,000 people, making it the worst-affected region in Russia. The area also saw 1,819 hepatitis C cases, or 100.39 per 100,000.

The hepatitis C rate in Omsk has surged to more than double the figures from 2022 to 2024. The region’s overall infection rate is over twice the national average. Kamchatka Krai, the Republic of Crimea, and St. Petersburg also report rates roughly twice as high as most of Russia.

Across the country, 35 regions now exceed the national average for viral hepatitis infections. Omsk Oblast leads Russia in viral hepatitis cases with a rate more than double the norm. The sharp rise in hepatitis C infections marks a significant change from previous years. Health data confirms the region’s position as the most affected in 2025.
