Art Therapy Helps Women Rebuild Lives After Drug Convictions in Yakutsk

A psychological training session took place in Yakutsk for women convicted of drug-related offences. The event formed part of Russia’s nationwide Anti-Drug Awareness Month and healthy lifestyle campaign. It aimed to support participants in reflecting on their personal potential and life goals. The art therapy workshop, titled 'Tree of Possibilities', was held at the Patriot Youth Center. It received support from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Social Communications of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Yelizaveta Borisova and Yulia Shelkovnikova led the session.

During the workshop, each woman created her own 'Tree of Possibilities'. This creative exercise helped them identify their strengths and cultivate socially responsible thinking. The technique encouraged self-reflection and personal growth. The Federal Penitentiary Service’s press office confirmed that such collaborations on socially oriented projects will continue. The session provided practical tools for the participants to use beyond the workshop. It also reinforced the ongoing efforts to promote rehabilitation and healthy lifestyles.
