Nagaon college hosts creative contests to combat child marriage

The Women's Cell of Nagaon GNDG Commerce College held a poster making and essay writing competition on Monday. The event aimed to raise awareness as part of the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat campaign. Faculty members and students attended the programme in large numbers. Bijumoni Pathak, the college’s Vice-Principal, officially opened the event. She stressed the need for widespread public awareness, strict legal adherence, and the empowerment of girls through education. Other faculty members, including Natasha Barua, Dr Puja Neog, Dr Jonali Sarma, Rupshikha Goswami, and Bhupesh Tumung, were also present and took part in the activities.

The competitions encouraged students to engage with social issues creatively. Organisers announced that the top two participants in each category would receive certificates and prizes. Dr Puja Neog, Assistant Professor of Hindi, delivered the vote of thanks to mark the programme’s conclusion. The event concluded with a call for greater social responsibility. The college plans to recognise the winners with awards. The initiative reinforced the campaign’s message against child marriage.
