Kazakhstan strengthens social welfare with expanded healthcare and maternity benefits

Kazakhstan has reinforced its commitment to social welfare with strong support for healthcare and maternity benefits. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted these efforts during a recent event at Ak Orda marking Medical Workers’ Day. President Tokayev attended the ceremonial gathering to honour medical professionals. He emphasised that fulfilling social obligations is a constitutional duty for all government branches in the country.

Kazakhstan’s Guaranteed Free Medical Care Program stands out for its extensive social focus and the wide range of free services it offers. The programme is a constitutional requirement, ensuring broad access to healthcare. This initiative has also helped position Kazakhstan as a regional leader in medical tourism, thanks to its high treatment standards and cost-effective care.

The president noted that Kazakhstan’s maternity leave benefits surpass those in many Western nations. Women in the country receive three years of paid leave with job protection. In 2022, the government allocated over 9 trillion tenge (nearly $18 billion) from the republican budget to support social needs. These measures underline Kazakhstan’s dedication to healthcare and family support. The country’s programmes provide tangible benefits, including extended maternity leave and comprehensive medical services. Such efforts aim to strengthen social stability and public well-being.
