Joseph Brant Hospital welcomes 2026's first newborn on New Year's Day
Joseph Brant Hospital welcomed its first baby of 2026 early on New Year’s Day. Hibah and Mohamed Abdellatif became parents to their third daughter, Hana, marking a special start to the year for the family. Hana Abdellatif was born at 7 pounds and 1 ounce on 1 January 2026. She arrived as the first baby delivered at the hospital that year. The Labour and Delivery unit at Joseph Brant Hospital provided care throughout the birth, ensuring a smooth process as Mohamed Abdellatif later described.
After the delivery, the family moved to the Maternal & Child unit. This part of the hospital supports both physical and emotional needs before and after childbirth. As part of a New Year’s tradition, the hospital gave a gift to Hana and her parents to celebrate the occasion.
In 2025, the hospital delivered over 1,500 babies. Its Labour and Delivery unit is known for its high standard of care for pregnant individuals and newborns. Hana Abdellatif’s birth marks the first of many expected deliveries at Joseph Brant Hospital in 2026. The family received support from both the Labour and Delivery and Maternal & Child units. The hospital continues its tradition of welcoming newborns with care and celebration.
