Kazakhstan honors lifesaving blood donors on World Blood Donor Day

Kazakhstan celebrated World Blood Donor Day on June 14 with a special event in the capital. The occasion highlighted the vital role of blood donations in saving lives. Organisers aimed to raise awareness and thank those who contribute regularly. The event was arranged by the Scientific and Production Center for Transfusiology. Support came from the Ministry of Health, local authorities, and private sponsors. It recognised the efforts of donors like Nurlan Zhusupov, who has given blood since 2012. He stresses the need for donors to stay healthy and understands firsthand how donations help patients with blood cancers.

In 2025, over 201,000 people took part in Kazakhstan’s donor movement, resulting in 250,000 donations. The centre still sees 120 to 150 donors daily, yet demand continues to rise. This is due to medical progress and an increasing number of patients needing blood for surgeries, childbirth, cancer care, and severe anaemia.

Five individuals received the title of 'Honored Donor' for giving blood or its components more than 40 times. Organisers believe the growing donor movement, especially among young people, will ensure a steady supply for patients nationwide. The event honoured long-standing contributors and encouraged more people to donate. With rising medical needs, maintaining a strong donor base remains critical. The recognition of dedicated donors reinforces the importance of their ongoing support.
