India's groundbreaking campaign tackles workplace stigma around pregnancy loss
A new campaign in India aims to address the silence around pregnancy loss in workplaces. Quest Global has launched a nationwide initiative to support women facing miscarriage, backed by research showing millions fear job insecurity or judgement if they speak out. The study, titled Break the Silence, was carried out by YouGov for Quest Global. It surveyed over 2,000 women and 200 men aged 25 to 39 across India. Findings revealed that around 80 million women stay quiet about pregnancy loss, worried about colleagues’ and employers’ reactions.
Nearly 78 million women fear losing their jobs or facing career setbacks if they disclose a miscarriage. Meanwhile, about 70 million would consider quitting if workplaces fail to offer proper support. Three in four women also reported a drop in confidence and work performance after experiencing pregnancy loss. In response, Quest Global has teamed up with YourDOST to offer free services. These include a 24-hour helpline, peer support groups, and training materials. The campaign has already gained support from five major organisations pushing for more inclusive work environments. The research also highlighted that 43 per cent of women would feel more loyal to employers who help them through pregnancy loss. Nearly half said they would speak more openly in supportive workplaces.
The campaign seeks to change workplace attitudes towards pregnancy loss in India. With millions of women affected, the initiative provides practical support while encouraging employers to create safer, more understanding environments. Free resources and partnerships with other companies aim to reduce stigma and improve job retention.
