Tapy's Smartwatch for Vulnerable Groups Expands to Seven Countries
A UAE-made wearable device designed to protect vulnerable individuals has expanded rapidly across seven countries. Tapy, a smartwatch for people with disabilities and the elderly, launched after its founder faced a personal crisis when his sister went missing. The idea for Tapy began when Youssef Alhussainy’s sister Rawda, who has Angelman syndrome, disappeared during a house move. To prevent this from happening again, he built a DIY tracking solution. Demand grew quickly, leading to a soft launch of the Tapy Aman Watch in October 2024.
Since then, the device has reached families in the UAE, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Malaysia, and Kuwait. The company aims to become a trusted safety tool for homes, schools, and care centres across the GCC. Beyond sales, Tapy runs the *No Families Left Behind* initiative, providing free watches to those who can’t afford them. So far, 150 devices have been distributed. The project has also earned recognition, winning *Best UAE Homegrown Business* at the MBRIF Demo Day and featuring on *EDB Accelerator Live*. Alhussainy now advises new founders to focus on problems that deeply affect them. He also stresses the importance of having the right infrastructure before scaling a business.
Tapy continues to grow, offering safety solutions for vulnerable groups in multiple regions. The initiative ensures accessibility for low-income families while expanding its reach. The company’s awards and media features highlight its impact in the wearable tech sector.
