Yakutia's oncology centre performs first autologous breast reconstruction after cancer

Yakutia’s oncology centre has carried out its first autologous breast reconstruction for a cancer patient. The procedure formed part of an international scientific-practical conference on oncology care. A leading Russian oncologist headed the surgical team. The surgery used the patient’s own abdominal tissue to rebuild the breast. This method is particularly beneficial for those who have had radiation therapy or a mastectomy. The operation typically lasts between six and eight hours.

Aziz Zikiryakhodzhaev, a prominent oncologist, led the team during the procedure. Doctors expected the patient to regain full mobility within two days. Yakutia reports a high early detection rate for breast cancer, with 75-80% of cases identified at stage one or two. The successful surgery marks a milestone for the region’s oncology centre. It offers new reconstruction options for breast cancer patients. The technique provides a viable solution for those with limited alternatives after treatment.
