Halle's first baby of 2026 arrives at St. Elisabeth Hospital

The first baby of 2026 in Halle arrived at St. Elisabeth Hospital just after lunchtime. Pauline was born at 1:45 PM on New Year’s Day, marking the start of a new year for her family. Pauline weighed 2,840 grams at birth and measured 48 centimetres long. Her arrival adds to the hospital’s busy year in 2025.

St. Elisabeth and St. Barbara Hospital in Halle delivered 1,623 babies last year. Among them were 27 sets of twins. Despite this activity, the broader region has seen a decline in births over the past decade, with Saxony-Anhalt experiencing a drop of around 30 percent. Pauline’s birth symbolises a fresh beginning for her parents. The hospital continues to play a key role in the region, even as birth rates fall. Her arrival is the first recorded in Halle for the new year.
