Komi region expands maternal and child healthcare with new clinics and tech

The national project Long and Active Life is boosting maternal and child healthcare in the Republic of Komi. Recent upgrades and expansions aim to improve services for women and children across the region. In 2025, the Republican Perinatal Center received 124 units of medical equipment worth 177 million rubles. Most of this new equipment is already in operation. Additionally, new women’s health clinics are set to open in four district hospitals next year.

Plans for 2026 include the opening of two more women’s health clinics at the Izhemsky and Ust-Kulomsky Central District Hospitals. These will be equipped with 108 million rubles’ worth of new medical technology. The Republican Children’s Clinical Hospital is also scheduled to receive updated equipment totalling 286.7 million rubles that year.

A new perinatal centre is also in the works for Syktyvkar. These developments follow Russian President Vladimir Putin’s emphasis on demographic challenges during his annual Direct Line Q&A. Reproductive health screening remains a central part of the Family national project to support birth rates. The expansions and upgrades will enhance healthcare access for mothers and children in the Republic of Komi. New clinics and equipment are expected to be operational by 2026, improving medical support for families in the region.
