WalkPort Device Helps Paralyzed Patients Regain Mobility and Independence

A new device called the WalkPort is helping people with mobility issues walk again. Janice Binstock, who suddenly lost the use of her legs, regained the ability to walk with its support. The invention comes from Alan Tholkes, a long-time designer of mobility products. Alan Tholkes became a paraplegic at 17 after a car accident. For over 40 years, he has dedicated himself to creating solutions for mobility challenges. The idea for the WalkPort came to him during visits to a rehabilitation centre for walking therapy.

The device aims to assist those with paralysis, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and age-related mobility problems. Data Metalcraft in Arlington, Minnesota, will produce the first units, with manufacturing set to begin in August. Tholkes, the founder and inventor of the WalkPort, will retire to Florida at the end of this month. The device is already proving its effectiveness, with users like Binstock experiencing life-changing results. Production will soon start, bringing the technology to more people in need.
