Football tournament unites community to save a 3-year-old with leukemia

SV Niersia Neersen is hosting a summer football tournament to help find a stem cell donor for a young boy. Hannes, aged three, has leukemia and urgently needs a transplant to survive. The event aims to raise awareness and encourage potential donors to register. The tournament will feature 14 teams and starts at 11 AM. Alongside the matches, a DKMS swabbing drive will take place at the clubhouse from 12 PM to 3 PM. The test for potential donors involves a simple cheek swab, with no blood draw required.

Hannes’ father has personal experience with stem cell donation, having previously saved another person’s life through the process. Organisers hope the event will bring the community together for a life-saving cause. More details about the tournament and the swabbing drive are available online. Interested participants can visit www.niersia1919.de or www.dkms.org for further information. The testing station will open at 12 PM on the day of the event.
