Ghana's First Female Heavy Equipment Star Shatters Industry Barriers

Rebecca Ahafianyo, a 25-year-old woman, has broken barriers in Ghana’s male-dominated heavy-duty equipment industry. She recently graduated as the Best Student from a professional training programme at the Regional Maritime University (RMU). Her achievements highlight the growing presence of women in technical fields. Born on 21 June 2000, Rebecca Ahafianyo completed her secondary education at Hohoe EP Senior High School in 2017. Before formal training, she taught herself about heavy-duty equipment operations through online resources. She then enrolled in an eleven-week programme at RMU, specialising in forklift and mobile crane operations.

On 22 December 2025, during the university’s ninth graduation ceremony, she received two top awards: Best Graduating Student and Best Mobile Crane Student. In her valedictory speech, she urged young women to pursue careers in the heavy equipment sector. Ahafianyo now aims to expand her skills in new equipment technologies. She plans to contribute her expertise to Ghana’s industrial and logistics sectors. Her success marks a significant step for women entering technical professions in the country.
