Russia's First Mobile App Diagnoses Childhood Speech Disorders with Precision

Researchers at HSE have created Russia’s first standardised mobile app for diagnosing phonological processing disorders in children. The tool is designed to support professionals in identifying language impairments like dyslexia and dysgraphia. It offers a new way to assess and address speech and writing difficulties in young learners. The app includes seven tasks with different difficulty levels. These test both the understanding and production of speech in children. Each task is voice-recorded by a professional narrator, ensuring consistency in pronunciation.

Results are measured against age-specific norms to provide accurate assessments. The tool also records children’s responses, allowing progress to be tracked over time. This feature removes reliance on the examiner’s own speech and helps create precise correction programmes tailored to each child.

Validation studies have confirmed the app’s reliability and effectiveness. It is now ready for use by speech therapists, neuropsychologists, and educators working with children who have language challenges. The app provides a standardised method for diagnosing phonological disorders. It helps professionals develop targeted intervention plans for affected children. The tool is the first of its kind in Russia, offering a practical solution for assessing and supporting language development.
