A week-long awareness campaign titled 'STOP Stroke!' took place at the School of the Third Age to mark World Stroke Day on October 29. The events aimed to educate attendees about stroke prevention, recognition, and response. Experts led lectures and practical sessions on the topic. Tatiana Nikolaeva, chief neurologist for Yakutia’s Ministry of Health, delivered a lecture on stroke prevention. She highlighted the importance of regular medical check-ups, a healthy lifestyle, and managing risk factors. Participants also learned about the different types of strokes and their causes.
The campaign included sessions on first aid protocols, with a focus on the 'golden hour' rule for patient care. Experts stressed the need to recognise early symptoms and avoid common mistakes when responding to a stroke. Sedentary habits, poor diet, alcohol, and smoking were identified as key risk factors.
Additional lectures covered broader topics, such as 'Stroke: What You Need to Know' and 'The Mysteries of Memory'. Maria Antonova, a social educator, discussed how proper nutrition, physical activity, and cognitive exercises support memory function. The series of events provided practical knowledge on stroke prevention and care. Attendees gained a clearer understanding of risk factors and effective responses. The campaign concluded with reinforced awareness of stroke-related health measures.
