Daniela Muñoz transforms LGBTQ+ healthcare with TRANSSALUD clinics

Daniela Muñoz is a neuroscience specialist with a strong commitment to LGBTQ+ healthcare. She founded TRANSSALUD, a project providing medical services and economic support to the community. Her work stems from both professional expertise and personal experience with discrimination. Muñoz studied medicine at La Salle University before earning a master’s in social philosophy. She later exposed an act of discrimination at an academic institution in 2020, bringing attention to systemic barriers.

After losing her job due to transitioning, she created Ioio, a platform for renting belongings. This experience reinforced her focus on economic and social access for marginalised groups.

She now runs TRANSSALUD, with clinics in Mexico City and León. The project offers medical care and collective economic initiatives for LGBTQ+ individuals. Muñoz sees around 13 patients daily, either in person or via video calls.

In her activism, she avoids the term ‘minority’ for trans people, correcting terminology to reflect dignity and equality. She also rejects the idea of utopias as achievable but still values them as guiding principles. Her approach blends clinical precision with deep emotional understanding of LGBTQ+ healthcare needs. Muñoz prefers to highlight her dedication rather than label herself a leader. Her work in medicine, activism, and economic empowerment continues to expand access for the LGBTQ+ community. The clinics in Mexico City and León remain central to her mission.
