Zurich Extends Anti-Harassment Platform After Proven Impact on Public Safety
Zurich's online harassment reporting platform, Zurich Takes Notice, will now run beyond its original 2025 end date. The City Council has extended the initiative after seeing its impact on combating sexism, homophobia, and transphobia in public spaces. The platform has also inspired similar projects in Bern and Lucerne.
Launched to tackle discrimination, Zurich Takes Notice lets victims and witnesses report incidents through its website. Users can also access details on legal support and counselling services. On average, the platform receives 1.5 reports daily, with most cases involving gender-based harassment.
Awareness of the initiative has grown, with roughly a third of Zurich's residents now familiar with it. Its success has prompted other Swiss cities to adopt comparable systems. Despite initial plans to conclude the project in 2025, the council has chosen to keep it active, though no new end date has been set.
The extension of Zurich Takes Notice ensures continued support for those facing harassment in public. The platform's data and resources will remain available, reinforcing efforts to address discrimination. Similar initiatives in Bern and Lucerne now follow Zurich's model, broadening the reach of such reporting tools across Switzerland.
