Yekaterinburg bans private clinics from performing abortions amid policy shift
The decline was announced at a press conference by Natalya Pepelyayeva, head of the obstetrics department at the Sverdlovsk Regional Ministry of Health.
According to Pepelyayeva, the reduction stems from the work of specialized counseling teams that dissuade women from terminating pregnancies at prenatal clinics.
Late last year, the regional health ministry revised its pregnancy care protocol. Now, abortion procedures will only be performed in state-run hospitals. At least three private clinics in Yekaterinburg have officially stopped offering the service, mirroring a decision adopted by some 300 medical facilities nationwide.
