Yamal Approves Compensation for Additional IVF-Related Expenses for Women
Yamal Region Offers 100,000 Ruble IVF Reimbursements for Couples
The Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug has established a procedure for reimbursing extra costs incurred by women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF).
The list of medical procedures provided beyond the scope of mandatory health insurance (MHI) now includes 20 diagnostic and treatment services designed to improve IVF success rates.
This new support measure was announced by Governor Dmitry Artyukhov during his report on the region's current affairs.
Previously, families referred for medically indicated IVF had to cover additional diagnostic tests out of pocket. Now, all women receiving an IVF referral from Yamal's medical institutions will be eligible for reimbursement of up to 100,000 rubles for services not covered by MHI—provided they are permanent residents of the region.
The reimbursable services include diagnostics, embryo cryopreservation, transportation, and pre-procedure preparation.
Patients will receive compensation for actual expenses within 10 days of submitting an application to the head of the medical facility that issued the IVF referral. The application must be accompanied by documents confirming payment.
Thanks to assisted reproductive technologies, around 160 healthy babies are born annually in Yamal, with the success rate of procedures increasing by 10% each year, the regional administration's press service told Novy Den.
There is no limit on the number of IVF referrals issued in Yamal. On average, about 500 couples from the region are referred for IVF annually. The full range of services—from diagnostics to delivery—is provided free of charge. Patients may choose any clinic in Russia, and transportation costs are also reimbursed by medical institutions.
