Woman Saved at Birth Returns as a Doctor to the Same Hospital

A woman who survived a traumatic birth has now graduated as a doctor from the same hospital where her life was saved. Kailie McGee, born at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, will return there on July 1—this time as an internal medicine physician. Her journey from a high-risk newborn to a fully qualified doctor marks a remarkable full circle.

Kailie McGee entered the world on March 8, 2000, in critical condition. Born with the umbilical cord wrapped tightly around her neck, she needed immediate medical intervention. Her mother also suffered hemorrhagic shock during childbirth, adding to the urgency of the situation. Thanks to the swift action of doctors, both survived.

This week, McGee graduated from Texas Christian University’s Burnett School of Medicine. The ceremony was an emotional moment for her and her classmates, many of whom have spent years training for this milestone. She officially earned her medical degree and will now be addressed as Dr. Kailie McGee. Her decision to specialise in internal medicine was shaped by her own dramatic start in life. Having benefited from life-saving care as a newborn, she now aims to provide the same level of support to others. Beginning July 1, she will start her career at the very hospital where her life was saved over two decades ago.
