Woman's Face Rebuilt After Boerboel Attack Sparks Legal Battle Over Dangerous Dog Breeds

In April 2022, Jordan Wilson suffered a life-changing attack when a family friend's Boerboel dog tore off her nose. The incident left her with severe injuries and a long road to recovery. Since then, she has undergone 16 surgeries to rebuild her face, including complex nasal reconstruction using tissue from her forehead.

The legal aftermath has also unfolded over time. The dog's owner was convicted of keeping a dangerous animal, fined, and eventually banned from owning restricted breeds. Now, two years later, the case has reached its final stages with a Supreme Court ruling on the dog's fate.

The attack happened suddenly during a visit to a family friend's home. The Boerboel, a powerful dog breed, caused catastrophic damage, removing Wilson's nose entirely. She was rushed to hospital, where doctors began the first of many operations to reconstruct her face.

Over the following months, surgeons placed tissue expanders in her forehead to stretch the skin. They later performed a forehead flap procedure, using the grafted skin to rebuild her nose. Additional surgeries refined its shape, thinning and reshaping the cartilage. While the new nose functions—she can breathe and even gets snot—it remains thick and lacks the sensitivity of her original.

Wilson documented her recovery on TikTok, where her updates have drawn over 135,000 followers. She has spoken openly about the physical and emotional toll, including her conflicted feelings about the dog. Though the attack wasn't vicious, it wasn't the animal's first bite, leaving her torn between relief and lingering unease.

Legally, the case moved through Jordan's courts after Wilson reported the incident. The owner was initially fined and ordered to declare the dog as dangerous. An appeal in late 2023 failed, and by mid-2024, the Supreme Court upheld a mandatory euthanasia order for the Boerboel. This January, the owner received a final penalty: a JOD 5,000 fine and a lifetime ban on owning restricted dog breeds.

Despite everything, Wilson remains an animal lover but now approaches them with caution, especially around her children. Her experience has reshaped how she interacts with dogs, balancing her affection for them with a new wariness.

Wilson's recovery continues, with her reconstructed nose now stable, though not without limitations. The legal process has concluded with the dog's euthanasia confirmed and its owner permanently barred from keeping similar dog breeds. Her story highlights both the physical resilience required after such trauma and the lasting impact on daily life—from altered routines to a more guarded trust around animals.
