Wesel's Health Awareness Week Returns with Focus on Inclusivity in 2026
Wesel will host its next Health Awareness Week from April 20 to April 25, 2026. The event returns after a successful revival in 2022, following a pause during the pandemic. Organised by local network partners, it will focus on health topics for both the general public and people with immigrant backgrounds. The decision to bring back Health Awareness Week was made at a networking meeting in October 2025. Participants at the gathering, hosted by Wesel's Integration Commissioner Lotte Goldschmidtböing, voted to revive the event for 2026. Goldschmidtböing regularly organises these meetings twice a year to connect local groups working with immigrant communities.
The week will begin on April 20 at 2 p.m. in the Council Chamber of Wesel City Hall. The mayor will open the event, followed by a lecture from Sabine Fabek-Fest on 'Stress and Health'. Topics throughout the week will include healthy eating, physical activity, and discrimination, with many sessions offered in plain language for accessibility.
A detailed schedule of workshops, lectures, and activities is available in a flyer. Copies have been distributed at public institutions across Wesel and can also be downloaded from the city's website. The City of Wesel is covering speaker and trainer fees, with total costs estimated at around €2,000.
While the exact number of organising groups is not yet specified, the event is a joint effort by partners specialising in support for immigrant communities. The first Women's Health Week took place in 2020, before the pandemic interrupted its continuation until 2022. Health Awareness Week 2026 will offer a mix of professional and public sessions, with a focus on inclusivity. The programme is designed to be easily accessible, including options in plain language. Further details, including the full schedule, are available through the city's official channels.
