Venomous Caterpillar Attack Leaves German Tourist in Agony in Thailand

A German tourist in Thailand suffered a painful injury after a venomous caterpillar stung her while she relaxed on a lounge chair. The incident, which took place in Pattaya, was recorded on video and quickly spread across social media.

The woman, identified as Yvonne L., was stung on the buttock by a myrtle moth caterpillar on January 24, 2026. The caterpillar's pink bristles contain toxic substances that caused a severe burn and an allergic rash. Doctors warned that the wound may take weeks to fully heal.

Yvonne was treated at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya by Dr. Narisorn Toomkaw. The same type of caterpillar had previously injured a Russian woman in the same area, raising concerns about their presence near popular tourist spots. The video of the incident, showing the caterpillar on the chair, went viral shortly after being shared online.

The caterpillar's venomous bristles are known to cause intense skin irritation. Yvonne's case highlights the risks posed by these insects in tourist-heavy regions. Authorities have not yet issued a warning, but visitors are advised to remain cautious when sitting outdoors.
