Ulta Beauty Launches Wellness by Ulta to Redefine Retail Experiences
Ulta Beauty is expanding its focus on wellness with a new in-store concept called Wellness by Ulta. The initiative transforms how beauty and wellness news are sold, blending expert guidance with a curated selection of brands. Four pilot locations will open this week in Columbus, Ohio; Short Pump, Virginia; and Peabody, Massachusetts.
The new Wellness by Ulta sections will operate as dedicated shop-in-shop areas. They will feature brands like The Nue Co., Stripes (founded by Naomi Watts), Playground (co-founded by Christina Aguilera), Arrae, and Neom. Existing names such as ARMRA, Therabody, Ritual, and Vital Proteins will also be included, with around six more brands joining by the end of the first quarter.
Ulta has structured its wellness news around four key pillars: Nutrition & Supplements, Intimate Care, Rest & Reset, and Essential Routines. The goal is to move beyond simple product displays and create an experiential space. Laura Beres, VP of Wellness at Ulta Beauty, described the shift as turning wellness news from a category into an immersive experience.
Exclusive launches are part of the strategy. The Nue Co. will debut its mood-boosting fragrances in over 1,000 Ulta stores, including the new wellness news corners. Naomi Watts' Stripes Beauty, which focuses on perimenopause and menopause care, will also be available. The approach reflects a broader trend where beauty and wellness news are merging, with brands emphasising feeling good as a foundation for looking good.
The success of Wellness by Ulta could influence how mass beauty retailers adapt to changing consumer demands. By combining education, expert staff, and a holistic product range, Ulta aims to attract both beauty and wellness shoppers. The concept's performance may shape future retail strategies in the industry.
