Multiple Years in Prison for Poisoning Attacks on Rescue Station - Trainee Paramedic Jailed for Poisoning 17 Coworkers with Stolen Drugs
A 25-year-old trainee paramedic has been jailed for poisoning 17 of her coworkers with stolen prescription drugs. The Heilbronn Regional Court sentenced her to three years and eight months in prison for grievous bodily harm. She admitted to lacing their drinks but claimed she only wanted to 'teach them a lesson'.
The incidents took place between October 2023 and April 2024 at a rescue service station in Vaihingen/Enz. The trainee, whose name was not released, used atropine—a medication normally used in emergencies—to spike her colleagues' drinks on at least four occasions. Victims reported symptoms like rapid heartbeats, blurred vision, and severe dizziness.
One paramedic became seriously ill during an emergency call and required hospital treatment. Prosecutors initially pushed for an attempted murder conviction on four counts, arguing the poisonings were deliberate and dangerous. However, the court rejected this, ruling that the evidence did not support intent to kill. The case first went to trial in late 2023, but proceedings collapsed after a lay judge died unexpectedly. A retrial began in mid-December of the same year, leading to the final verdict.
The court's decision closes a case that left 17 emergency workers affected by the poisonings. The trainee will serve her sentence in a German prison, with her actions now part of the station's official record. The ruling confirms the severity of her crimes while stopping short of the harsher charges prosecutors had sought.
