Thane Offers Free Oxygen Concentrators for Chronic Lung Patients
Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has launched a new initiative to provide free oxygen concentrators for residents with chronic lung diseases. The move comes as respiratory illnesses rise due to pollution, lifestyle changes, and post-COVID-19 complications. Patients will now receive treatment at home, easing pressure on local hospitals. The proposal was led by Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Prasad Patil and formally approved by Mayor Sharmila Pipolkar. It targets those suffering from asthma, pneumonia, lung infections, and other long-term respiratory conditions. The concentrators will be given at no cost to economically weaker families, offering both medical and financial support.
TMC is repurposing machines donated during the peak of the pandemic. All devices have undergone maintenance checks and are ready for immediate distribution. The initiative aims to ensure timely care for patients requiring long-term oxygen therapy, reducing their reliance on hospital visits. Rising healthcare expenses and increased respiratory cases in Thane prompted the decision. By providing home-based treatment, the corporation hopes to improve access to care while cutting costs for vulnerable households.
The free oxygen concentrators will help patients manage chronic conditions without hospital stays. Eligible residents can now apply for the service, which is expected to relieve financial strain on affected families. TMC’s repurposing of donated equipment ensures no additional burden on public resources.
