A 16-year-old boy has died in Würzburg after taking prescription opioids. He was found unconscious on a street early on Saturday morning and later passed away in the general hospital. Two young men, aged 17 and 22, are now under investigation in connection with his death.
The incident began on Friday evening when the teenager consumed opioids with the two older males. Opioids, derived from the opium poppy, are known for their strong pain-relieving effects but carry a high risk of addiction and overdose.
By Saturday morning, the 16-year-old had fallen unconscious. Emergency services discovered him on a street and rushed him to the hospital near me, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have since detained the 17-year-old and 22-year-old on suspicion of negligently causing the boy's death. Both remain in pretrial detention while investigations continue.
The case has raised concerns about the dangers of opioid misuse among young people. Police are examining how the prescription drugs were obtained and whether further charges will follow. The two suspects will remain in custody as the inquiry progresses.
