Syktyvkar's public pool stays closed over water safety concerns

The municipal swimming pool in Syktyvkar will stay closed for now. Officials have delayed its reopening because of ongoing issues with the water treatment system. An exact date for when it will welcome swimmers again has yet to be confirmed.

The closure follows reports of skin reactions among children who used the pool. Complaints included red patches, peeling, and blisters after swimming. The pool was first shut down in April for 30 days due to sanitary violations. Inspectors from Rospotrebnadzor later found further problems during checks. Tests for residual free and combined chlorine had not been carried out, and the facility failed to monitor surface disinfection properly.

While the pool remains out of service, other parts of the complex will continue operating. The gym, fitness centre, and sports halls will stay open from Monday to Friday as usual.

Authorities have not yet set a new reopening date. They will announce further updates once the water treatment system meets all safety standards. The delay affects swimmers but does not impact other activities at the facility. Officials have stressed that the pool will only reopen after all required tests and repairs are completed. A formal announcement will be made once a new date is confirmed.
