Swiss hairdresser's campaign delivers hope to fire survivors in Crans-Montana
A hairdresser from Martigny in Valais has launched a campaign to collect hair donations for fire victims in Crans-Montana. The initiative quickly gained traction, with over 30 kilograms of hair gathered in just one month. Support spread rapidly through local networks, including a popular Facebook group with thousands of members.
The call for donations began after a devastating fire in Crans-Montana left several people in need of wigs. Seven victims have already requested them, and organisers aim to provide multiple wigs per person. The campaign also extends support to cancer patients, broadening its impact.
The initiative was promoted on Crans-Montana Solidarité, a Facebook group with more than 21,000 members. While exact figures for similar projects in Switzerland remain unclear, global efforts like Pantene's Beautiful Lengths have collected over 500,000 ponytails since 2006. Local Swiss organisations, such as Stiftung Haarspende, have also contributed thousands of donations over the years.
The collected hair will help create wigs for both fire survivors and cancer patients. With over 30 kilograms donated in a short time, the campaign has already made a tangible difference. Organisers continue to work on fulfilling requests and expanding support where needed.
