Shymkent police crack down on stalking after high-profile cases surge
Police in Shymkent have halted two separate stalking cases involving women in recent weeks. The incidents follow a rise in public awareness after a high-profile stalking case in January 2024. Authorities have stressed that such behaviour will face strict legal consequences.
In the first case, a man continued to harass a woman after their relationship ended, ignoring her repeated requests to stop contact. Officers detained the suspect and forwarded the case to court for further action.
In the second incident, another man not only stalked a woman but also physically assaulted her. Police arrested him and initiated criminal proceedings for both stalking and assault.
The Interior Ministry has reinforced its stance on violence and harassment against women, warning that such offences will be met with administrative or criminal penalties. Since the widely reported January 2024 case, media outlets like Khabar 24 and Tengrinews have increased coverage of stalking incidents. Public calls for better police responses have also grown, with expectations for improvements by mid-2026.
Both suspects now face court proceedings after their detentions. The cases highlight ongoing efforts to address stalking and violence in the city. Authorities continue to urge victims to report such crimes, ensuring legal action is taken.
