Russian Surgeons Remove Walnut-Sized Kidney Stone Using Laser Surgery

Surgeons in Russia's Udmurt Republic have successfully removed a kidney stone the size of a walnut from a patient. The procedure took place at Glazov City Hospital and involved minimally invasive laser surgery. Doctors described the stone as exceptionally large for such cases.

The operation was carried out on 29 January 2026 at the Republican Clinical Diagnostic Center. The patient, Marat Gafurov, underwent a procedure lasting around an hour. Surgeons used laser technology to break down and extract the stone, which measured over three centimeters in diameter.

No complications occurred during the surgery. Medical staff confirmed the stone's size was extremely rare for urinary tract cases. After the procedure, Gafurov was placed under observation and is now recovering well.

The patient remains in stable condition and continues to recover under medical care. The successful removal of the unusually large kidney stone highlights the effectiveness of minimally invasive techniques. Doctors expect a full recovery in the coming weeks.
