Russia has marked the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Radiation Accidents and Disasters, as well as the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster. Those who selflessly saved the world from a terrible threat deserve our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude.
The Social Fund of Russia's branch in Khabarovsk Krai and the Jewish Autonomous Oblast provides compensation and social support measures to citizens affected by radiation and man-made disasters linked to the Chernobyl accident, reports the Khabarovsk Krai Today news agency.
Benefits include a monthly cash payment, food allowances, compensation for health damage, and support for the loss of a breadwinner who participated in the cleanup efforts.
Additionally, Chernobyl survivors are entitled to extra paid leave, annual health recovery compensation, and a one-time payment for health damage.
Those eligible for support include liquidators who worked at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant or within the exclusion zone, as well as military personnel, Interior Ministry employees, firefighters, and others involved in mitigating the disaster's consequences.
Social assistance is also available to evacuees from the exclusion zone, those resettled to other regions, widows of liquidators, and their underage children.
To apply for benefits, affected individuals must contact the Social Fund's regional branch in Khabarovsk Krai and the Jewish Autonomous Oblast. Applications can be submitted via the government services portal, at the fund's client service centers, or through a Multifunctional Public Service Center (MFC).
To receive payments, applicants must provide the necessary documents to the regional Social Fund office within five business days of receiving notification that their application has been accepted and registered.
