Resi Stiegler's Near-Death Ordeal After Childbirth Sparks Blood Donation Mission

Retired U.S. ski champion Resi Stiegler has spoken openly about a terrifying health scare following the birth of her daughter. Just hours after welcoming Riva into the world, she suffered a severe postpartum hemorrhage. The incident left her fighting for her life in hospital. Stiegler gave birth to Riva at St. John’s Hospital, where six other Stiegler girls were born before her. Eight hours later, a sudden and extreme hemorrhage put her in critical condition. Doctors and nurses rushed to stabilise her, using every available lifesaving measure.

She later described the moment she first held Riva against her skin as the most incredible feeling she had ever experienced. Despite the trauma, Stiegler now calls motherhood her greatest gift and most meaningful role.

After recovering, she expressed deep gratitude to the medical team at St. John’s for their skill and dedication. The ordeal also changed her perspective, making her more aware of how fragile life can be. As a direct result, she has committed to donating blood to help others in need. Stiegler’s experience highlights the serious risks some women face after childbirth. Her recovery has led to a personal mission of giving back through blood donation. She continues to cherish her time with Riva, calling her daughter the most precious part of her life.
