Princess of Wales makes emotional return with Italy's civic honour

The Princess of Wales has completed her first solo international trip in over three years. During the visit to Italy, she explored educational models centred on nature and human connections—a key focus of her advocacy work. The trip also highlighted her ongoing recovery after a cancer diagnosis announced last year.

The Princess travelled to Italy to study early childhood development programmes. These initiatives emphasise learning through outdoor activities and social interaction, aligning with her long-standing interest in the field.

While there, she received the city’s highest civic honour. The recognition came as she engaged with local educators and policymakers. Part of the visit included a demonstration by Medical Detection Dogs, an organisation supported by Camilla. Labradors Floren and Jodie showcased their ability to detect certain cancers by scent. The charity trains dogs to identify disease-related odours, aiding early diagnosis. The Princess’s trip marked a significant moment in her public return. Her cancer, first announced in 2024, has been in remission since January 2025.

The visit underscored the Princess’s commitment to early childhood education and medical innovation. Her participation in the event also signalled a step forward in her health journey. The trip was her first major solo engagement abroad since her diagnosis.
