Professor Anke Regina Mothes, MD, took over as head of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Helios Hospital Meiningen on January 1, 2026. Her appointment marks a key step in the hospital’s push to modernise women’s healthcare. She brings expertise in robotic surgery and a strong record of leadership in the field.
Before joining Helios, Professor Mothes led the Department of Gynecology at St. Georg Hospital Eisenach. There, she ran Thuringia’s only training center for Da Vinci robotic gynecological surgery. Her work included mentoring surgeons across Germany and abroad in advanced minimally invasive techniques.
Earlier in her career, she served as head of the Functional Unit for Urogynecology and Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery at University Hospital Greifswald’s Women’s Clinic. Her specialisation in pelvic floor disorders and minimally invasive procedures has shaped her approach to patient care. At Helios Hospital Meiningen, she plans to introduce new methods in robotic gynecological surgery. The hospital, already certified as a Baby-Friendly Perinatal Center, aims to strengthen its reputation for safe, modern, and patient-focused treatment. The managing director has stressed her dual strengths in medical skill and leadership, calling her appointment a strategic move for the department’s future. The arrival of Professor Mothes reinforces Helios Hospital Meiningen’s position in advanced gynecology and obstetrics. Her experience in robotic surgery and training will likely shape the department’s development in the coming years. The hospital continues to focus on delivering specialised care with a patient-first approach.
