Obesity now fuels one-third of Russia's deaths by 2024
Each third death in Russia is caused by diseases that arise from excess weight, said the leading researcher of the FGBUN "Nutrition and Biotechnology", Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Alla Pogozheva. According to the expert, excess weight leads to type 2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, arterial hypertension, osteoporosis, gout and cancer.
Almost 28% of deaths in Russia are caused by alimentary-dependent diseases - pathologies that arise due to excess weight. Together with other factors, such as a negative external environment, genetics, injuries, and the contribution of improper nutrition to the occurrence of alimentary-dependent diseases is approximately 30-65%, - said Pogozheva in a comment to Gazeta.Ru.
Literally, by a quarter of a century, by 2050, 60% of the adult population of the planet will suffer from diseases associated with obesity and excess weight. In the first place, this is type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and some types of cancer, the expert predicts.
