Nizhny Novgorod Forum Transforms Patient Care with Bold New Strategies

A major medical forum took place in Nizhny Novgorod on February 21, focusing on patient-centred care and advanced treatment techniques. The event, titled 'From Hand to Hand: Komunarka's Experience,' drew over 200 healthcare professionals to the Regional Children's Clinical Hospital. Key figures, including Denis Protsenko, director of Moscow's Komunarka General Hospital, shared insights on improving patient experiences and medical practices.

The forum highlighted innovative approaches in pain management, regional analgesia, and infusion therapy. Discussions covered post-cesarean pain relief, acute pancreatitis treatments, and handling severe blood loss. Speakers also addressed emotional support, with Protsenko urging staff to better understand patients by 'walking in their shoes.'

Komunarka General Hospital's unique patient initiatives were showcased, such as an ICU wedding ceremony and outdoor visits for bedridden individuals. Protsenko commended Nizhny Novgorod's adoption of similar patient-first strategies at its children's hospital.

Local officials, including Deputy Governor Andrei Checherin and Deputy Health Minister Tatyana Kovalenko, attended the opening. The region's Feedback Platform, launched in 2022, was also noted for its impact. Reports through the system surged from 1,500 in 2022 to over 12,000 by early 2026, leading to tangible improvements. These included 40% faster appointment scheduling in 25 clinics, communication training for 3,000 staff, and upgraded equipment in 15 hospitals based on patient feedback.

The forum underscored the growing emphasis on patient feedback and tailored care in Nizhny Novgorod. With new techniques and system upgrades already in place, the region aims to further enhance medical services. The event reinforced collaboration between Moscow's Komunarka General Hospital and local healthcare providers.
