Mold and Poor Ventilation Plague Russian Maternity Ward Amid Infant Deaths
An investigation has uncovered serious issues at a maternity ward in Novokuznetsk, Russia. Problems with mould and faulty ventilation were found, raising concerns about patient safety. These violations follow earlier reports of similar problems in 2021.
The hospital has delivered over 140 babies since late December. Most of these newborns were reported to be in good health. However, a number of infant deaths occurred, with many of the children being premature.
Each baby at the facility had their own assigned doctor. This makes it unlikely that all medical staff could have made identical errors at the same time. Yet, some mothers claimed they lacked proper medical records or health documentation.
The latest findings echo past violations identified in 2021. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the recent deaths are directly linked to the hospital’s conditions.
The discovery of mould and ventilation failures has put the Novokuznetsk maternity ward under scrutiny. While most recent births went smoothly, the deaths of premature infants remain under investigation. Officials will need to determine whether the hospital’s environment played a role in these cases.
