Medical Students Save Passenger's Life Mid-Flight to Moscow

A group of medical students from Vladivostok sprang into action during a flight to Moscow after a passenger fell seriously ill. Their quick thinking and professional care over six hours helped stabilise the 59-year-old woman until the plane landed safely.

The incident took place on May 18 aboard a flight from Vladivostok to Moscow. The students, en route to Minsk for an international Olympiad, were suddenly called upon when a passenger lost consciousness mid-journey.

Without hesitation, they used the aircraft’s medical supplies to diagnose and treat the woman. They inserted a peripheral IV catheter and began infusion therapy, working tirelessly for six hours to keep her stable. The flight itself lasted eight hours and 35 minutes, but the students remained focused throughout. Upon landing, the passenger was immediately transferred to ground medical services for further care. Their actions did not go unnoticed—during the Olympiad in Minsk, the students received commemorative awards in recognition of their life-saving efforts.

The medical students’ training and composure proved crucial in a high-pressure situation. Their intervention ensured the passenger received continuous care until professional help took over. The awards presented in Minsk formally acknowledged their skill and dedication during the emergency.
