Man Survives Horrific Snowmobile Crash After 7-Hour Facial Reconstruction Surgery

A 44-year-old man in Zhukovsky, Russia, has survived a severe snowmobile accident that left him with critical facial injuries. Doctors performed a complex seven-hour operation to reconstruct his shattered bones and stabilize his condition.

The accident caused multiple fractures across the man's face, damaging his frontal bone, sinuses, and jaw. Upon arrival at the hospital, his condition was classified as critical, requiring immediate intervention.

A joint team of neurosurgeons and maxillofacial specialists carried out the emergency procedure. In the first phase, neurosurgeons removed bone fragments and rebuilt the damaged sinuses. Maxillofacial surgeons then restored the skull, eye socket, and jaw, securing the bones with titanium mini-plates.

After the operation, the patient completed initial rehabilitation in the hospital. He has since been discharged but now faces a lengthy recovery process.

The man's survival followed a high-risk surgical effort involving multiple medical teams. His long-term recovery will depend on ongoing treatment and follow-up care. The case highlights the challenges of reconstructing severe facial trauma after extreme accidents.
