Lünen Launches Free Legal Consultations for Guardianship and Powers of Attorney
The City of Lünen is expanding its support for residents needing legal guidance. Starting in April 2026, the Adult Guardianship Office will hold regular open consultation hours at City Hall. The service aims to make advice on guardianship and powers of attorney more accessible to the public. The new consultation hours will take place every Tuesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Room 30 on the ground floor of City Hall. No appointment will be required, allowing residents to drop in for assistance.
During these sessions, staff will provide information on legal guardianship, powers of attorney, advance care directives, and voluntary guardianship. Official certification of powers of attorney will also be available on site for a fee of €10. Those seeking certification must bring a valid ID and appear in person. However, advance healthcare directives—often called living wills—will not be certified at these sessions. Instead, residents are advised to consult their general practitioner for guidance on this matter. While exact figures on the number of adults in Lünen using guardianship services in recent years remain unpublished, the initiative reflects the city's effort to simplify access to legal support.
The new service begins in April 2026 and will run twice weekly without the need for prior booking. Residents can now get certified powers of attorney and legal advice more easily. The city's move follows a broader push to improve public access to guardianship and legal planning resources.
