Landshut Farmers Learn Hands-On Soil Health at Sustainability Workshop

Twenty farmers leasing municipal land recently took part in a full-day workshop on soil health in Landshut. The event focused on sustainable farming techniques and the importance of maintaining healthy soils for long-term agriculture. Organisers included the city's Property Management Office, the Office for the Environment, Climate, and Nature Conservation, and the initiative A.ckerwert – Sustainable Leasing for People and Nature.

Soil expert Hans Schiefereder led the session, explaining the intricate relationships within soil ecosystems. He stressed how sustainable management can protect fertility, water retention, and biodiversity while reducing erosion and supporting climate goals.

The workshop combined theory with practical exercises. Farmers conducted infiltration tests to compare water absorption in different soil types. They also analysed soil samples to evaluate land health and identify areas for improvement. Representatives from Landshut and *A.ckerwert* confirmed plans to host more educational programs like this one. Their aim is to encourage wider adoption of sustainable practices among local farmers leasing city-owned land.

The event equipped participants with hands-on knowledge about soil conservation and efficient land use. Future workshops will build on this effort, helping farmers apply sustainable methods in their daily work. No further details were provided on similar initiatives across Bavaria in recent years.
