Kuwait tightens expat health checks with updated 'Wafid' programme rules

Kuwait has introduced an updated executive bylaw for its 'Wafid' programme, designed to improve health checks for expatriates. The new rules, implemented by Health Minister Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi on Saturday, aim to strengthen public health and security through stricter medical testing procedures. The 'Wafid' programme ensures expats meet health requirements before entering Kuwait. Under the updated bylaw, medical tests must now be repeated at approved centres in Kuwait after arrival, following strict health protocols.

The new regulations cover 54 articles, focusing on faster and more accurate testing. They introduce e-linkage between health bodies to streamline procedures and maintain updated records of laboratory, x-ray, and clinic checks. Preventive vaccines for expats are also included. Overseas medical centres must meet strict criteria for approval and assessment. The bylaw enforces higher moral and professional standards, reinforcing integrity and transparency in all health facilities involved.

The updated bylaw strengthens Kuwait’s ability to monitor expat health more effectively. By requiring retests upon arrival and improving digital coordination, the system aims to reduce risks and maintain public health standards. The rules apply immediately to all incoming expatriates.
