Koblenz series WHAT DRIVES HER... amplifies female leaders' untold stories
Women in Koblenz are taking on leadership roles—in public administration, business, culture, science, and volunteer work. Yet they remain underrepresented in many executive positions or must navigate decision-making spaces still shaped by male-dominated structures. To mark International Women's Day on March 8, the Koblenz discussion series "WHAT DRIVES HER..." puts these very women center stage.
Since late 2024, hosts Alexandra Klöckner and Margit Theis-Scholz have been inviting female leaders from Koblenz and the surrounding region for regular conversations on Open Channel Koblenz. The format blends portrait and discussion: it creates visibility, challenges traditional roles, and strengthens women's influence in shaping local society.
The programming on Open Channel Koblenz is produced by citizens themselves.
Women in Leadership—Between Office and Identity
Each episode begins with a personal question: Which woman has shaped your life? This deliberate opening connects individual journeys with broader societal shifts. The conversation then explores career choices, structural barriers, work-life balance, power dynamics, and personal leadership philosophies.
The title "WHAT DRIVES HER..." plays on the dual meaning of her—the professional in her role and the person behind it, including the experience of womanhood itself. It's about the officeholder as much as the woman with her doubts, convictions, and visions. Pivotal life moments, formative experiences, courage, and uncertainty are discussed alongside the question: What is it like for a woman to hold responsibility?
A Broad Spectrum of Female Leadership
The series' guests reflect the diversity of women's influence in the region: voices from culture, the church, education, hospitality, the judiciary, and volunteer work share the stage with women in fields traditionally seen as "atypical" for women—such as transport services or the fire department.
The conversations take place at the guests' own workplaces, grounding the discussions in local reality.
Contributing to Local Dialogue
At a time of societal polarization and pressing municipal challenges—from education and labor shortages to economic and administrative transformation—the series asks key questions: What perspectives do women bring to decision-making? How do they change processes? And what structural conditions are needed to achieve true equality of opportunity?
Launched in 2024 as a long-term project, the series aims to sustainably highlight female expertise, leadership, and influence in Koblenz and beyond—not as an exception, but as a natural part of a modern society.
