Kentucky Celebrates Women's History Month 2026 with Events and Awards
March 2026 marks another celebration of Women's History Month across the US. The annual event honours women's achievements and their impact on society. This year, Kentucky will host a range of activities, from educational talks to awards ceremonies, recognising both historical and contemporary contributions. The tradition began in 1978 as a local week-long celebration in Santa Rosa, California. By 1980, President Jimmy Carter officially declared it a national Women's History Week. Seven years later, Congress expanded the observance to a full month, designating March as Women's History Month.
Since 1995, every US president has issued an annual proclamation to mark the occasion. President Trump's 2026 proclamation continues this tradition by highlighting American women's accomplishments in various fields. Kentucky is joining the celebrations with several events. On March 7, the Cincinnati Downtown Main Library will host a Women's Health Fair. Later in the month, on March 17, the Kentucky Women In Business 2026 Summit will take place at Lexington's Lyric Theatre & Cultural Arts Center. Kentucky Humanities will also feature stories of notable women from the state's past on their Facebook page throughout March. Meanwhile, the Outstanding Women of Northern Kentucky awards are accepting nominations until March 13, with the winners to be honoured at a dinner on June 4. For those interested in history, Dr. Paul Tenkotte will deliver a talk titled *Reviving Lost Voices: Women in Early America* on March 26 at the Kenton County Public Library's Covington Branch.
The month will showcase women's roles in business, health, and history through public events and online recognition. Nominations for local awards remain open until mid-March, while educational talks and summits provide further opportunities for engagement. These activities aim to raise awareness of women's enduring influence in Kentucky and beyond.
