Kazakhstan probes driver medical exams after testing irregularities surface

Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova has called for an urgent review of narcological clinics after reports of irregularities in driver medical exams. The move follows complaints about alcohol impairment testing procedures at certain facilities across the country.

The minister held a meeting to examine public grievances, parliamentary concerns, and documented breaches in testing protocols. These issues raised doubts about the reliability of medical assessments for drivers.

In response, Alnazarova ordered the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control to carry out a full audit of all regional narcological centres. The inspection will check whether clinics are following current standards for medical examinations. Any violations found during the audit will be passed to law enforcement for prosecution under existing laws. The Health Ministry has stated it will continue to monitor the situation closely.

The audit will verify compliance with testing rules and determine if further action is needed. Clinics failing to meet requirements may face legal consequences. The ministry has not yet set a timeline for the review’s completion.
