Kazakh Woman with Disabilities Finds Debt Relief Through Legal Aid Programme

Zhanar Khasenova, a resident of Akmola Region, has found relief from financial hardship thanks to the Debt-Free Society initiative. The 42-year-old, who lives with a second-degree disability and relies on a Dumon stent to breathe, struggled with debt after losing her mobility to two strokes. Free legal support from the programme has helped her regain control of her finances. Khasenova’s troubles began when she fell behind on loan repayments. Courts responded by freezing her assets, leaving her with little financial flexibility. Unable to work due to her health condition, she faced mounting pressure from unpaid debts.

The Debt-Free Society initiative, launched in April 2023 by the Amanat party on the president’s orders, stepped in to assist. Legal experts from the programme worked to lift the asset freezes and renegotiate her repayment terms. As a result, Khasenova secured a more manageable schedule for clearing her debts. The initiative provides both legal aid and financial guidance to those in crisis. Its goal is to restore stability and confidence for people facing overwhelming debt. For Khasenova, the intervention marked a turning point in her financial recovery.
