Joyce A. Gehman, devoted nurse and church volunteer, dies at 93

Joyce A. Gehman, a long-time member of Hershey Mennonite Church and a dedicated nurse, has passed away at the age of 93. Born in Adamstown, Pennsylvania, she spent decades serving her community through healthcare and church work before her death on January 24, 2026.

Joyce was born on January 3, 1933, in Adamstown. After training at Preston Maternity Hospital in Philadelphia, she began her career as a home nurse. Later, she worked at Lancaster Osteopathic Hospital, contributing to local healthcare for many years.

For over two decades, she volunteered at Hershey Mennonite Church, where she produced a monthly prayer calendar for the congregation. She also spent time helping in the church office. Beyond her professional and volunteer work, Joyce enjoyed knitting and often gifted handmade items to newborns.

In her final years, she received care at Fairmount Homes, where she lived for the last 2.5 years of her life. Joyce is survived by her brother, Paul Gehman, two sisters, Janet Gehman and Margaret Gehman, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held to honour her memory. Those wishing to pay tribute can make memorial donations to the Sharing Fund at Fairmount Homes.

Joyce's legacy includes decades of service in nursing and church work. Her handmade gifts and prayer calendars left a lasting mark on her community. Memorial contributions will support the care facility that looked after her in her final years.
